She is the daughter and granddaughter of daughter of actors Gene Lockhart, as well as actor June Lockhart. Lockhart made her debut in the industry at very young age. She first acted at age four as she was in T is for Tumbleweed. The short film on the topic was nominated by the Academy Awards. Her mother took her to the studio to learn about the workings of the film industry. Lockhart was even a part of several Lassie episodes. Dora in Jory, 1972 was her first film. At age 18 she played one of the daughters Joan Crawford in 1972 television show The Sixth Sense. It was Joan's last acting performance. Carpenter has claimed that the actor was in contact with her but she refused. Anne doesn't recall being offered the role to John Carpenter or being offered the role. It is possible that one of her representatives declined the role on her behalf, and without ever informing her. The initial decision was by Glen Larson who sent her an extremely preliminary script to play a role in the 1978 show on TV Battlestar Galactica. She initially refused the part due to the fact that her character wasn't very powerful. Then Glen made a different part specifically for her, with a much stronger character named Sheba. The actress accepted the Living legend script after having read its initial 25 pages. The show ran for one season. She was a co-star with Desi Arnaz Jr. (son of Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball) Melanie Griffith and Robert Carradine in the film Joyride (1977) and co-starred with Michael Moriarty in the horror movie The Dark Tower (1987).
